Graston Technique - Injury Treatment and RehabilitationSimple Technology Improving Injury Treatment & Rehabilitation

Module I: Graston Technique® Basic Training

The Graston Technique® is an advanced form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, which enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The Technique is performed with patented stainless steel instruments designed to effectively detect and treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis.

The primary objective of the course is to assure an understanding of Graston Technique®, and how it is integrated into the full spectrum of physical rehabilitation. By the end of the seminar, you'll be able to:

  • Integrate the use of the Graston Technique® on specific body regions
  • Verbalize the indications and contraindications of the Graston Technique®
  • Explain the definition and rationale of the Graston Technique®
  • Demonstrate the knowledge of the instruments and methods for diagnostic applications
  • Recognize implications of stages of tissue healing and reactivity on the treatment process
  • Integrate use of the Graston Technique® with concepts of evaluation, modalities, the kinetic chain and exercise
  • Become familiar with a framework for evaluating and defining states of soft tissue conditions
  • Apply the technique to different body regions and diagnoses

Module II: Upper and Lower Extremities/Spine

This program is designed for those clinicians who have completed Module 1 and purchased the Graston Technique® Instrument Package.

The program provides the clinician with an in-depth discussion on soft tissue injuries due to macrotrauma vs. microtrauma. Lectures include the effect of loading on soft-tissue and why Graston Technique® is effective for soft-tissue lesions.

At the end of Module 2 the clinician will have learned:

  • To more effectively examine soft-tissue.
  • Functional examinations of the shoulder, elbow, forearm and wrist, hip and thigh, knee and leg, foot and the spine.
  • Rehabilitation procedures.
  • Hands-on application of Graston Technique® for specific diagnostic entities.

The clinician will also be evaluated as to their level of proficiency in the application of Graston Technique®.
