Graston Technique® Module 1 — Basic Training
Goals and Objectives

Course Description: This course introduces the participant to Graston Technique® protocols using patented stainless steel instruments that are designed to adapt to the various tissue/shapes/curves of the body to precisely examine and treat a variety of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. This program is an advancement in soft tissue mobilization that allows the clinician to detect and treat soft tissue dysfunction that produces pain, weakness and functional limitation for the patient. The instruments are designed to provide an adjunct to a clinician's hands and developing good manual skills is crucial to the success of this technique. Hands on application using the instruments will be stressed as part of the program.

Teaching/Learning Methods & Materials: Various teaching methods will be utilized consistent with the various levels of complexity of the learning objectives. These will include explanations, demonstrations, performance, feedback, teaching, supervised open practice, and case troubleshooting. Teaching materials will include PowerPoint presentation, manual and handouts.

Basic Objectives: Upon completion, the clinician will have learned the basic handholds, strokes, indications/contraindications for treatment as well as treatment protocols.

Measurements: The clinician will be asked questions by the instructor and be observed in a laboratory setting. The clinician will demonstrate all strokes on the instructor who will provide appropriate feedback as to pressure, tissue penetration, stroke and treatment angle.

Proficiency: The clinician will demonstrate to the instructor all functional components of using Graston Technique®. There is no written test at this time.
